1885 Inaugugural Ball Program for
President Grover Cleveland and Vice President Hendricks. Small cream colored folder has gilt edges and has a satin
cord wrapped pencil attached with a stain cord. The front of the folder
shows an image of President Grover Cleveland and Vice President Thomas A.
Hendricks. Across the front it says "Souvenir of the INAUGURATION BALL
March 4th 1885". The back shows an image of the NEW PENSION BUILDING.
Listed inside are the names of the Executive Committee and Members, The
General Committee and Members, Committees and Their Chairmen, The
Reception Committee, Floor and Promenade Committee names, Members of Floor
Committee. Next is a program of the Order of Opening Exercises. Music by
the U.S. Marine Band, John Philip Sousa, Conductor. Reception of the
President, 9 to 11 o'clock. Then there is the Order of Dancing at 11
o'clock with 2 pages for Engagements. Music by the Germania Orchestra of
Philadelphia, Chas. M. Schmitz, Conductor. Next is the Menu, including the
wine list. Price of the Supper Tickets was One Dollar. I won't list all
the items on the menu but if you need to know please ask. The last page
lists the Committee on Music and Badges, Committee on Banquet, Committee
on Carriages, Committee on Invitations and Ball Programs, Committee on
Distribution of Ball Tickets. Finally, on the inside of the back cover is
etching with the inscription that this was engraved and printed for V.G.
Fischer, Washington, D.C., by E.A. Wright, Philadelphia.
